HOW TO: MAKE A TEXTURE

-

FIND YOUR TEXTURE

Trudy says… You can make a texture out of almost anything: a crack in a wall, brickwork, bits of material, the list is endless. If I see something I like the look of when I’m out and about, I’ll photograph it. I tend to use an aperture of f/8 for sharpness throughout.

UPLOAD AND EDIT

Trudy says… You may find your texture is ready for use after a basic edit, but there’s no reason why you can’t completely change it and let your creativity run wild. I sometimes use Hue/saturation to completely change the colour, or filters such as Gaussian Blur or Twirl to alter the structure.

EXPORT & EXPERIMENT

Trudy says… Once the texture is edited, save it as a JPEG and add it to a dedicated folder on your computer. You then have all of your textures in one place to cycle through. I always try multiple textures as you never know which one will work best.
