Keep notes
Keep a notebook on you at all times. Not only are they great for noting information such as camera settings, location, weather conditions, the date and time of day, but they can also help you explain why you took a picture of something. Write a note about what you saw and why you photographed it in the way you decided to. Explain what you were looking at, how you were feeling about it and why you decided to photograph in the way that you did. This is an essential part of understanding your creative process. There’s no need to get hung up on writing beautiful prose if writing doesn’t come naturally to you, although that’s always nice, but try to get something down. Not only will it help you articulate your thoughts and what you’re trying to communicate, it will also provide a fascinating insight into your creative growth as an artist.
