Enhance your colours

BOOST THE SHADOWS WITH THESE SIMPLE COLOUR TRICKS IN CAMERA RAW AND PHOTOSHOP

-

1 Fix colour casts

It can be tricky to balance out the red, green and blue flashes to combine to white, so you may find your images display a colour cast. You can remove colour casts with the White Balance tool in Camera Raw/lightroom. Click on a point that you want to be neutral, like our backdrop here.

2 Enhance colours

Some of the colours may look weaker than others. Go to the Color Mixer panel in Camera Raw/lightroom, click the Saturation tab then grab the target tool. Next, click and drag to the right over colours in the image to target and enhance colour ranges. You might also want to experiment with the Luminance of colours.

3 Separate the subject

If you’re finding it hard to balance out the subject with the backdrop, it may be easier to edit each separately. Open the shot in Photoshop then go to Select>subject. Duplicate to a new layer with Cmd/ctrl+j, then use Color Balance (Cmd/ Ctrl+b) to tweak the colours in the subject, or switch to the bottom layer to edit the backdrop.
