Create a wildlife-friendly garden
By making your garden more wildlife-friendly, you’ll not only help nature, but enhance your photo ops. Consider creating a small pond or water feature. You can buy preformed pond liners or membranes from a garden centre. Add native aquatic plants to create cover for amphibians, dragonfly and damselfly larvae.
Create or buy a bug hotel and fill borders with nectar-rich plants, like lavender. Don’t be too tidy – areas of uncut grass, leaf deposits and wood piles are all good places for small invertebrates. Avoid using pesticides, too.
Nest boxes will encourage birds into your garden, while piles of logs or rocks are great for slow-worms or grass snakes to live in or bask upon.
