Remote release
If going after wide-angle images of wildlife, a set of radio triggers is certainly worth the investment. I love my Pocketwizards, as they allow me to position a camera close to my subjects, retreat and fire from a distance. Find a location of a known perch or regularly visited spot, position the camera, and choose your composition and framing.
Often it’s a good idea to leave a little space and then manually set focus before moving back to trigger. A good pair of binoculars can be a great help when watching for your subject to approach its prime position for the shot.
