Canon IMAGEPROGRAF PRO-300
Canon takes A3+ photo printing to a new level
Although it’s a pigmentbased printer, the PRO-300 delivers superblooking output on glossy as well as matte and fine art media. This is enabled by the ‘chroma optimizer’ cartridge, which smooths out the finish when printing on glossy photo paper.
Media handling is very good, with a rear-mounted upright paper feeder and a horizontal manual feeder, more ideal for fine art and thicker media, while also enabling panoramic printing up to almost a metre in length. Unlike Canon’s previous pigment-based printers, the PRO-300 enables borderless output on matte and fine art media, instead of just on glossy, semi-gloss and lustre photo papers.
Performance
The new 10-cartridge LUCIA PRO ink system delivers a wide gamut (colour space) with rich, vivid colour rendition, as well as high-fidelity black-and-white photo printing with amazingly deep yet detailed blacks. Print quality is spectacular in all respects and it’s rather speedy for a pigment-based printer, even when it comes to printing in the highest quality mode.
N-photo verdict
Output looks superb on glossy and matte media and it edges ahead of the PRO-200 for black-and-white quality.
Ink cost (per ml)
Ink costs are competitive but not as low as the Epson P900.
Print speed (mins)
It’s twice as fast as the Epson P900 in top quality mode.
