Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM | S

£1699/$1999 Superzoom meets super-telephoto

-

With its unique 10x zoom range, this Sigma enables you to shoot at everything from a fairly standard focal length to extreme telephoto, without having to change lenses. As such, it follows in the footsteps of the ‘Bigma’ 50-500mm but is even larger and 40 per cent heavier, at 2700g.

The optical path includes three top-grade FLD (‘Fluorite’ Low Dispersion) elements and one SLD (Special Low Dispersion) element.

As with other Sigma lenses on test, dual AF modes include an ‘MO’ (Manual Override) setting, in which you can override AF even when using the camera’s continuous AF mode. The dual-mode switchable stabilizer only has static and panning modes, but custom modes enable you to increase or decrease the appearance of stabilization in the viewfinder.

Performance

Autofocus is fast, stabilization is effective and image quality is impressive, given the extra-large zoom range. However, there’s nevertheless a slight impact on sharpness, colour fringing and distortion.
