Plot a path

Leading lines

-

Leading lines are so-called because they literally lead the viewer’s eye in towards your focal point. Without leading lines the viewer’s eye can be encouraged to wander when faced with a busier scene, making it more difficult to identify the focal point.

For our shot of Rutland Water’s Normanton Church we have several leading lines from the horizon, the path and even the clouds, all subtly pointing towards the structure. Look for features such as paths, fences and treelines as you scout your scene. These are all elements that can be used to lead the eye towards your subject and not out of the frame, which could disengage the viewer.
