Album review
I recently switched to the new integrated NX Studio and, in the May 2021 issue (N-photo 123), I noticed Neil Freeman’s ‘Expert Tip’ on page 85 about the Album feature. The feature looks very good and
I am sure that I would find it valuable. But I am concerned about the need to make backups of albums so the considerable time involved in album preparation is not wasted in the event of a computer failure.
Albums also appear to only work for shots stored on my computer. I have too many pictures to store on my computer. If I wanted to include pictures on the external drives in Albums, the software appears not to ‘remember’ the file paths when the drives are disconnected then reconnected (and NX Studio re-launched) in subsequent processing sessions. So the pictures dragged into Albums from the drives are lost. Am I missing something? Simon Littlejohn
We’ve reached out to Nikon who confirms that the Albums feature in NX Studio does not currently support ‘offline’ external drives, and that you cannot backup albums either, but has taken on board your comments for consideration for the future update list. It’s early days for the software, so fingers crossed!
