Retro-themed kit lenses

-

Launched alongside the Z fc are two new(ish) lenses: the Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR (Silver Edition) and the Z 28mm f/2.8 SE (Special Edition). The former is essentially the same kit lens you get with a Z 50, but with a silver makeover to match the Z fc. The lens is compact and lightweight, with a total length of 32mm and weighs in at just 135g. It also offers a handy 24-75mm equivalent zoom range when compared to full-frame bodies. The other retro-themed lens available at launch is the Z 28mm f/2.8 SE (Special Edition). This isn’t as versatile as the 16-50mm, but it certainly feels at home attached to the Z fc. Using a prime lens on a camera that’s suited to photo walks is always a joy, because it forces you to move around in search of interesting compositions. The 42mm focal length (in 35mm terms) isn’t as familiar as a 35mm or nifty fifty, but it’s still very versatile. The Z 28mm f/2.8’s focus ring is smoother and larger than the Z DX 16-50mm’s and it boasts a chunky rubber grip. It’s actually been designed using classic blueprints, making it an attractive prospect for those wishing to fully embrace the FM2 aesthetic and use manual focus. It also doubles as a customizable control ring.
