Nissin DI700A + Air 1
£200/$250 A reasonably priced wireless flashgun kit
Not much to look at, the Nissin DI700A appears almost too simple. On-board controls boil down to a rotary dial and solitary ‘Set’ button, and the info display is very rudimentary, although at least it lights up in colour. Only the most basic settings can be altered without resorting to controls on the camera.
The sophisticated part of the package is the ‘Air 1 Commander’, which slots into the camera’s hotshoe to trigger the flashgun remotely. Communication is via RF with a range of 30 metres. But it’s incompatible with Nikon Z cameras, requiring an upgrade to the Air 10s trigger. The flashgun itself is compatible with all Z cameras apart from the Z 7II, and also includes the basic infrared remote facility, plus dual optical remote modes for use with other flashguns.
Performance
For the best results in TTL mode, you need to dial in about half a stop of positive flash exposure comp, but recycling speeds are super-fast and the max output is hefty, coupled with a long max zoom range of 200mm.
