Taking inspiration
Thank you for your feedback to my query about Nx-studio last issue (N-photo 128, September 2021). It will be interesting to see if Nikon does improve the Album’s ability to access off-line drives. As Adobe Photoshop (and Lightroom) is, in the view of many, a reference standard that includes cataloguing and does not provide for backup, one should not be too critical of Nikon; and indeed I am not wishing to be. I find Nikon software very good for my purposes.
I have learned so much with N-photo and have made all my photographic equipment purchasing decisions after studying the reviews. By the time issue one was published
I was the owner of a D90. Subsequently, the first of many very valuable pieces of advice, which influenced my Nikon journey, was Matthew Richards’ review of the 18-200mm lens. I traded in the D90’s kit 18-105mm lens and the 18-200mm remains my workhorse for travel. I upgraded to the D7100 more than seven years ago; but only after I had read the N-photo review. I have additionally purchased accessories including Cokin ND filters and Visible Dust sensor cleaning equipment following the same process.
The technical advice has always been excellent, whether it be on focusing, setting up Custom Settings and the like – I have never looked back after switching to back-button focusing. Auto ISO can also be so useful at times…
I have drawn inspiration from the various articles suggesting subjects to photograph and techniques to try too. The hare was taken in our garden with the 70-300mm lens handheld and through a glass window, so as not to frighten the animal. I used a high shutter speed and Auto ISO.
