Step by step Activate the histogram
Set up your camera to show the histogram when reviewing your images
Playback time
Press the Menu button and navigate to the Playback menu, which is the first menu on most cameras. On older DSLRS this may be in the Custom Settings.
Assess the options
Navigate to ‘Playback Display Options’ (or ‘Playback Options’) and press OK. Use the multiselector to scroll up and down within this menu.
Overview on
Select ‘Overview’ – on most cameras this is on the second page. Press right on the multi-selector to tick its box, then OK to confirm your choice.
Review the shot
Exit from the menu system and now take a photograph of any scene, then press the Playback button to review the image on the LCD monitor.
Cycle to Overview
Now press up or down on the multi-selector to cycle through to the Overview screen, which shows the composite histogram for the scene.
A colourful choice
You could also select the RGB Histogram from the Playback Display Options menu; this more advanced graph also shows the red, green and blue channels.
