EXPERT INSIGHT FLOWERY CLOSE-UPS
Andrea says… The temptation, when capturing close-ups, is to frame the whole flower head and focus on the stigma. But your focal point can be anything that draws your attention. When Ian photographed this dahlia he wanted to depict the curvature of the petals, so we focused on the tip of the most interesting petal and used a very tight crop to fill the frame. Windy conditions are best avoided, but if you’re shooting in a breeze you can use stakes to hold subjects in place.
