The B&W Mixer panel in Camera Raw/ Lightroom offers eight sliders that enable you to control the brightness of different colour ranges as you convert your pictures to black and white. As well as adjusting the sliders, you can also use the Target tool in the panel and click-drag over parts of the photograph to target and adjust the colours. As well as being more intuitive, the Target tool also allows you to affect more than one colour range at once, which tends to lead to more natural-looking changes in shots with less obvious break-up of pixels.
