Take control
Raw shooting, resulting in a .NEF file, gives us the most control over the colour of the snow when we process our images in post-production. It doesn’t matter at all what the white balance setting is in-camera if we shoot in Raw – as we can always change it in post-production. If you do want to control your white balance in-camera, here are recommended colour temperatures for certain situations: overcast – 6500 K; shade – 7500 K; clear sky – 8000 K (higher if it looks blue, lower if it looks pink).
