Comprising of a complete transmitter/ receiver kit, the original Viper system was a simple but effective trigger with an impressive 2.4GHZ 100-metre range. However, it was only available in Canon-fit, and lacked TTL transmission. Hähnel has now addressed these limitations. We found that the TTL mode on our Nikon kit worked perfectly – however, it does offer compatibility with other brands on the market, should you need it. You still get remote control of flashgun power from the transmitter, with the clear backlit LCD screen and logical controls making it an absolute cinch to use when you’re on shoots. Flashguns can be arranged into three groups, and though there’s no choice of frequency channels, Hähnel goes one better with a Digital Channel Matching system that securely codes the transmitter and receivers together to help you prevent any annoying interference. Both the transmitter and receiver are on the chunky side and build quality isn’t quite on a par with the top triggers on this list. That being said, it’s not far off and you still get metal hotshoe mounts all round for that decent build.
