Pocketwizard Flextt5
Pocketwizard has long been the pro tool of choice when it comes to wireless flash systems, and it’s easy to see why with the no-compromise Flextt5 transceiver, which doubles as a transmitter or receiver. However, the price quoted is for a single unit, and you’ll need to buy a pair; one for your flashgun and one for your camera, making it by far the priciest option here. The Flextt5 comes in Nikon mount, amongst others, and the Nikon I-TTL metering transmitted over a huge 240-metre range, which is impressive, to say the least. However, if that’s not far enough for you, this can be increased to a truly staggering 365 metres when using Basic Trigger mode, which forgoes its more upmarket features and works with all brands of cameras and flashgun. The Flextt5 enables High Speed Sync with compatible flashguns, allowing for super-fast shutter speeds up to 1/8000 sec. You can tweak this yourself, if needs be, and adjust the plethora of other advanced features, including extensive channel options, by connecting the on-board USB port and using Pocketwizard’s Utility software, which also enables firmware updates. PROS Flawless performance; full compatibility with advanced flashgun features CONS Underwhelming build for the money; complicated to get used to; expensive
