“I’d been to a couple of Johnny Marr’s gigs before and knew that at one point in his performance he’d lift his guitar to play it vertically, which I thought would make for a great shot. So I zoomed to a mid-range telephoto focal length with my 70-200mm lens and composed vertically in anticipation of the action, leaving enough space above him for the movement, and keeping my focus point trained over his face. When he did I had just enough time to shoot off a few frames.”
