Paintshop Pro has been a go-to Windows-only photo editor for years, undergoing many reincarnations along the way. This one seeks to offer a photo-editing solution for beginners, learners and advanced users, via ‘Photography’, ‘Essentials’ and ‘Complete’ workspaces.

Somewhat like Photoshop Elements, Paintshop Pro caters for a more traditional audience looking – probably – for value and familiarity, rather than bold new directions in image editing.

The Ultimate edition comes with a host of add-on applications and tools included, such as Corel Painter Essentials, Photomirage Express (cinematographs) and Aftershot 3 for image organizing and Raw processing. You get a lot for your money – though these programs are more like a similarly themed job lot at an auction than an integrated imaging solution.

Paintshop Pro comes with new AI tools, including AI Portrait mode and AI Background replacement. Though the likely leader for anyone who wants Ai-driven enhancements is Skylum Luminar AI, which is about the same price as Paintshop Pro.
