EXPERT INSIGHT STENCIL LIGHT

-

James says… Holding gobos – as opposed to securing them onto a flash head – affords you more control over the lighting effect, because you can position them however you like. This doesn’t just affect where the pattern sits on your model. If you move the gobo further from your subject and closer to the light source, the shadows will appear softer and larger, and if you move it further from the light source and closer to your subject they will look smaller and harder. I prefer softer shadows as harder shadows tend to look a little more artificial.
