Best camera ever?

-

s the proud owner of a D850, and having just received the May 2022 edition (N-photo 136), I was prompted to write to you with a couple of thoughts. I am really frustrated with the lack of easy-to-find advice on some of the nuances of this amazing piece of kit.

Nobody has produced an ‘Idiot’s Guide to…’ the D850 yet. I am slowly figuring out how all the dials and buttons work, but so much of this camera should be so easy to use if only you know how.

For example, I was struggling with sharp, clear focusing until I discovered the Exposure Delay setting, and now, having set this at 0.2 sec, what an amazing difference! The easy Exposure Compensation setting is another example of a really useful option that I wasn’t aware of.

Where all this is leading me is why not do a regular slot in the magazine specifically for the D850, with a couple of ‘hot tips’ each time? I know we are heading rather quickly into mirrorless and there are other cameras worthy of attention, but the D850 is not dead yet and I, for one, see many years of fun to come with it, but I so wish I knew of more of the hidden gems to enhance the experience… Paul Markides

We cover Exposure Delay, as well as other ways of reducing shake, on page 42. But we need to cover such functions in a way that is useful to all our readers; if we were to do a series on a specific model, users of other Nikons would complain we weren’t giving theirs fair coverage! As always, thoughts welcome!
