Nikon has released a new colourway for its iconic Z fc camera. The retro mirrorless is now available in black, as well as black/ colour combos. The Nikon Z fc was originally released in July 2021 in silver, and it’s proved popular thanks to its blend of old-school looks and modern-day mirrorless technology. Nikon is hoping to cash in on the popular original silver version by releasing a Black Edition exclusively for the Nikon Store. As well as black, another six new colours for the Premium Exterior (the central textured area of the camera body) have been added, making a grand total of 12 different colour variations for the Z fc Silver and Z fc Black combined. The colour variants are exclusive to the online Nikon Store. Nikon’s second ‘new’ product is the Z 40mm f/2 (SE), with the SE standing for ‘special edition’. This is a compact prime lens with the same optical performance as the current Nikon Z 40mm f/2 – just with a design more in keeping with Nikon’s heritage products. With knurls on the focus and control rings, the lens design is inspired by manual Nikkor lenses from the era of Nikon’s film cameras. The lens has a standard angle of view that is ideal for shooting snapshots, street and portraiture; the 40mm focal length is equivalent to 60mm when the lens is mounted on an APS-C Dx-format camera.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

We love the original Z fc’s striking metallic looks and retro-feel control dials, and the multi-coloured versions that have appeared via the Nikon Store will certainly turn heads while you’re out shooting. But if traditional sober black styling is more your thing, this camera and lens combo may be right up your alley.
