Smart Editing

As always, Radiant Photo analyses images and intelligently applies the Smart Editing settings that images require. For this landscape shot, all Smart Editing controls were left at the defaults alongside additionally applied settings within Detailed Edit. This in itself greatly improved the image, but there was still room for manual control.

Tone Controls

Light Diffusion was applied at 50 to remove harsh shadows and Depth was set to 30 to boost clarity while providing more shadow and highlight detail in Definition mode. The Black Point was set to 10 to lighten blacks and reveal more detail in the backlit sea defences. This provided a lift to the image while maintaining the soft pre-sunrise light in the scene.

Fidelity adjustments

Fidelity was set to 25 in Standard mode. Fidelity re-maps the full spectrum of colours in the photo that haven’t been recorded correctly, which is often a shift in blues and purples, to produce more natural and indeed faithful colours. This image has a purple hue because of the blue hour light mixing with the warmth of the rising sun.

Colour Adjustments

Vibrancy was set to 5 to increase saturation in colours with low saturation while leaving more vibrant colours unaffected, while a tint was detected so Tint Correction was set to 3 at Default strength. Sky Toning was then set to Sunset at Strength 8 to enhance the sunrise colours in the sky. There are six Sky Toning presets to use for different types of skies.

Noise Reduction

Sharpening was left at the default determined by Radiant Photo while noise reduction was applied in the Default preset and settings because noise was detected in the sky area. Noise reduction in Radiant Photo is automatic, but you can take control of the sliders if you wish. Even when turned on, it’s only applied when noise is detected by the software.
