Rock guitarist Eric Clapton is reported to have dropped some $4.7 million transforming one of Ferrari’s standard $530,000 458-Italia model supercars into a trib- ute to what the man fans call ‘‘God’’ regards as being the greatest Ferrari of all.
The 512 Berlinetta Boxer, of which Clapton has owned three, has been out of production for decades.
But re-creating it is no barrier at all when you happen to be one of the four or five super-rich in the world

Ferrari Australia spokesman Edward Rowe said the ultra luxury brand’s Portfolio program allows customers to ‘‘design and develop their own unique production car’’.
‘‘That can entail subtle alterations of an existing model through to recreations of classic sports cars into modern road cars.
‘‘Ferrari will build one that meets all legal road requirements with a production run of one of yours.
‘‘Clapton’s is obviously an homage to his favourite Ferrari but with modern performance and comfort.’’
