Kings tackle 36ers curse
IF you thought the Sydney Kings’ hoodoo against Adelaide was tough, wait until you see their season-defining schedule leading into Christmas.
The Kings will attempt to snap an 11-game losing stretch against the 36ers when they take on Joey Wright’s men today.
Sydney struggles to contain Adelaide’s fast-paced style but it must find a way to stop the 36ers to spark its season.
The Kings face a difficult schedule in the lead-up to Christmas with five road games, including clashes against Perth and Melbourne.
Guard Jerome Randle knows Sydney isn’t producing its best but he has called for calm heading into today’s match against bogey team Adelaide.
“I wouldn’t say it is a monkey off the back,” Randle said.
“I’m not looking at those 11 wins from Adelaide – I really don’t care.
“The thing is they are two games below us on the ladder and we want them to continue to be below us.
“It is important for us to be above Adelaide because of how they play. We just have to get that win for our sake.”
When it comes to Adelaide, Randle is qualified to speak.
He spent two seasons at the 36ers between 2015-2017 while he won the NBL MVP in ’17.
Randle says Adelaide’s secret to success is simple.
“They don’t change for anyone and I think that is what makes them great,” he said.
“They’ve lost a few games but they won’t be in panic mode.
“I know Joey (Wright) and those guys well. There were a couple of seasons, even when I was there, when we started off losing and then we won 10 in a row.
“It is all about them being confident in who they are.
“They are very confident in the way they play and Joey does a great job in letting those guys know their role.”
The Kings take on the 36ers in Adelaide from 2.50pm.
