Air race remembered
AVIATION buffs will, on Monday, commemorate the 99th anniversary of arrival of the Great Air Race at Fannie Bay.
The ceremony, at the newly refurbished Ross Smith memorial on East Point Rd, is the first of many events leading up to the centenary commemorations next year.
Fannie Bay history and heritage society president Judy Boland said students from Parap Primary School would perform The Ballad of the Great Air Race as part of the commemoration.
The anniversary ceremony will also include members of the Royal Australian Air Force.
Ms Boland said the arrival of Ross Smith and his crew marked the first international flight to land in Australia.
The ceremony begins at 8.30am on Monday.
