Po­lice dog at­tacked in ar­rest

NT Po­lice’s star pa­trol dog Loki has been at­tacked and in­jured dur­ing an ar­rest.

On Thurs­day Loki was tasked with find­ing a 20-yearold man in a com­mu­nity near Alice Springs who was wanted for a hand­ful of of­fences.

The man tried to flee when ap­proached so po­lice dog Loki was de­ployed to catch the man who, upon ap­pre­hen­sion, struck Loki sev­eral times to the face. Loki was able to re­gain con­trol and suc­cess­fully re­solve the sit­u­a­tion without fur­ther in­ci­dent.

As a re­sult of the as­sault, Loki sus­tained mi­nor abra­sions and swelling to his face, but was oth­er­wise un­in­jured.

The man was charged with breach of bail, two counts of ag­gra­vated as­sault, two counts of breach DVO, two counts of re­sist ar­rest, es­cape law­ful cus­tody and in­ten­tion­ally in­jure a po­lice dog.
