Police dog attacked in arrest
NT Police’s star patrol dog Loki has been attacked and injured during an arrest.
On Thursday Loki was tasked with finding a 20-yearold man in a community near Alice Springs who was wanted for a handful of offences.
The man tried to flee when approached so police dog Loki was deployed to catch the man who, upon apprehension, struck Loki several times to the face. Loki was able to regain control and successfully resolve the situation without further incident.
As a result of the assault, Loki sustained minor abrasions and swelling to his face, but was otherwise uninjured.
The man was charged with breach of bail, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of breach DVO, two counts of resist arrest, escape lawful custody and intentionally injure a police dog.
