On this day
IN THE TERRITORY
1 YEAR AGO: AN NT News poll revealed 84 per cent of respondents were opposed to the Territory Government’s plan to build a new $50 million museum at Myilly Point. Results showed 816 people out of 970 polled did not support the museum, which was later scrapped.
5 YEARS AGO: THEN Senator Nova Peris called for an independent audit of Ranger Uranium Mine in Kakadu, following a radioactive slurry spill. The spill, of up to 1.5 million litres, came from a failed leach tank during the weekend.
10 YEARS AGO: A MONSTER python has been found in a Territory family’s backyard chicken pen munching down a fully grown hen. The 2.7m water python, which tipped the scales at a hefty 4.6kg, had a bulging belly and could barely move after eating the live chook.
