Bloody Marys are back with a bite as bartenders compete for the tastiest title
THE Bloody Mary, a mixture of chilli, tomato juice and vodka is making a comeback and Darwin bar staff will go head to head to see who can make the best version of the cocktail.
The Bloody Mary, invented in the 1920s, has been a staple for those seeking a hair of the dog drink, but in recent years it has soared in popularity.
Darwin bartenders will compete tomorrow to find out who can whip up the best Bloody Mary.
The only requirement will be that it has to include Ketel One vodka.
SkyCity Casino’s bar manager Ollie Howe said contestants had been getting creative with prawns, oysters and homemade spice mixes tipped to be featured.
“It’s a resurgence of the old classic and a lot more people are wanting a lot more spice so instead of the few drops of Tabasco they are using chillies and spice mixes,” he said.
The competition kicks off at 4pm at the Sandbar tomorrow.
