Cops slam driver’s conduct

- JASON WALLS

POLICE have busted a man allegedly breaching seven different road rules at the same time, including driving while high on meth, describing his vehicle as a “rolling time bomb”.

The 24-year-old was pulled over on the Arnhem Hwy near Jabiru on Wednesday after the cops saw him doing 100km/h in an 80km/h zone.

After speaking to the man the officers found he was driving on an expired licence, in an unregistered, uninsured and defective vehicle and towing an unregistered trailer.

He later returned a positive test for methamphetamine.

Officer in charge of Darwin traffic operations, Senior Sergeant John Ginnane, said his troops were conducting longrange regional patrols when the driver’s excessive speed drew their attention.

“Any one of these factors would have been dangerous enough to other road users but when you combine all seven it is very clear that the police conducting extended operations on regional highways have removed a rolling time bomb from our roads,” he said.
