Cops bust alleged drug trio
POLICE have charged two men and a woman with commercial drug supply after seizing almost 50kg of cannabis following vehicle searches on the Stuart Hwy.
An NT Police spokeswoman said drug detection dog Danger sniffed out the 47.2kg of the drug in plywood boxes in two vehicles near Mataranka late on Wednesday. A 34-yearold man was charged with possessing and supplying cannabis as well as a smaller quantity of a schedule 1 drug and a 42year-old man was charged with cannabis supply and possession as well as possessing a schedule 4 substance. A 45year-old woman was charged with cannabis possession and supply. All three were remanded in custody to face the Katherine Local Court on Friday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson said this seizure had prevented “a large amount of cannabis from entering our remote communities”.
“We will continue to target groups such as this who profit from the devastating effects that substance abuse has on our community,” he said.
