Weed, meth seized


THREE men have been arrested after a drug operation uncovered 7.7kg of cannabis and 280g of meth destined for Central Australia.

Early on Monday, a vehicle was apprehende­d after entering the NT from South Australia. A search uncovered the illicit substances and the three men were charged with supplying a commercial quantity of both drugs.

A 39-year-old Alice Springs man and a 37-year-old South Australian man have been remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on October 21. A-24-year-old South Australian man has been remanded until September 2.

An NT Police spokesman said detectives from Alice Springs Crime Investigat­ion Branch and the Dog Operations Unit had been conducting proactive patrols of remote and urban roads. The trio was issued with infringeme­nt notices for allegedly contraveni­ng public health orders by bypassing the Border Control Point.

The passenger of another vehicle apprehende­d during the operation was issued with a drug infringeme­nt notice.
