- KIERAN BANKS

A MAN who allegedly stole a car from Alice Springs and later led police on a pursuit through Tennant Creek has been charged.

The 21-year-old man allegedly broke into a Gap Rd business at 3.40am on August 25.

Police allege the man also stole a car from a South Tce property two days later.

An NT Police spokesman said the allegedly stolen vehicle was spotted in Tennant Creek on September 1.

“Officers engaged the vehicle in a pursuit and located it abandoned a short time later. The male was arrested after a foot pursuit,” he said.

Investigators from Strike Force Trident charged the man with seven offences including stealing, driving a vehicle in a dangerous manner and property damage. He was remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on September 23.

Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly said: “There is no excuse for this kind of pointless and dangerous behaviour. We will continue to ensure that property offenders such as this are put before the courts.”
