Many were angry about the levels of crime and domestic violence in the precinct.

“I just want Housing to take action and listen to us,” a neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said.

“The anti-social behaviour here is overwhelming.

“To see everything that happened last night was the most overwhelming thing.

“Listening to the wailing and the crying and the selfharm.

“There must have been around 30 cops here. There was domestic shouting and screaming last night, and children screaming for hours, and no one came out. We need help here (in this unit complex).”

Another resident said he heard loud noises from about 10pm to 11pm on Thursday. Another man, who wanted to be known only as Kevin, said he called police about 12.30am after hearing crying and screaming.

“The woman’s screaming, telling them to go, the kids are crying, just literally that scared,” Kevin said.

“Then 20 minutes later (after police arrived), there was proper screaming, you know, like howling.”

Kevin said he saw two ambulances come and go through the course of the early morning.

Residents of the building were unwilling to reveal the victim’s identity for cultural reasons.

St John Ambulance NT confirmed its crews attended the scene.

CPR had commenced before their arrival, with the crew taking over, but the person had passed away.
