DARWIN HYPED FOR GRAND FINAL

- NATHANIEL CHAMBERS

THE AFL grand final may be all the way in Perth but Darwin footy fanatics, two-legged and four, are also gearing up for the big day in support of either the Demons or the Bulldogs.

Gathered at Gardens Oval, the Waratah faithful were divided with Alessio, 5, and Brodie Ayres, 9, wearing the red and black of Melbourne.

And lining up against them was diehard Western Bulldogs supporter Charlie Bryan with his own bulldog, Robert, named after former captain Robert Murphy.

Both sets of juniors were pumped for the big day, with Charlie still fondly remembering his side’s recent 2016 premiership win.

“I’ve been a Bulldogs fan forever. I still remember that 2016 win and I’m hoping for another,” he said, naming Aaron Naughton his favourite player.

“I’m a big fan of Melbourne,” Brodie said naming midfielder Christian Petracca his favourite player. “I’m looking forward to the game a lot.”

The much-anticipated AFL grand final will kick off at 6.45pm ACST.
