Interest in luxury hotel

- THOMAS MORGAN

THE NT government has revealed international developers are among those who’ve submitted interest in building the much-anticipated luxury hotel at the Darwin Waterfront.

It follows Port Darwin operator Landbridge announcing earlier this year that it would no longer proceed with a sixstar Westin at the Waterfront, leading the NT government to reclaim the land.

Registrations of interest for developing, financing and operating the luxury accommodation units at the site closed this month, with the Chief Minister Michael Gunner’s office saying submissions were received from local, interstate and international parties.

An assessment panel is also reviewing responses to Watarrka Track after the applications closed last week.

Once investment is secured, the track will take walkers on a multi-day journey through Watarrka National Park in Central Australia. Mr Gunner said the strong submissions for both projects was “great news”.

“Both of these projects will be game-changers in driving visitation, growing the economy and creating new jobs for Territorians,” he said.
