Mid ‘bull’ favourite

MELBOURNE midfield bull Christian Petracca is seen as Dustin Martin’s most likely heir apparent in Norm Smith Medal voting. Petracca, an onballer who kicks goals, tops the TAB betting at $7 to be named best on ground for Saturday night’s AFL grand final at Perth Stadium.

Richmond champion Martin is the game’s only triple Norm Smith Medal winner – 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Sitting behind Petracca in the market are Clayton Oliver ($7), Marcus Bontempelli ($8) and Max Gawn ($9), while Demon hard nut Jack Viney is considered a strong outsider at $21.

Oliver, who was an $11 chance when TAB released the Norm Smith market on August 23, is responsible for 22 per cent of the money wagered on that market, including a $2500 bet at his current price of $7.

Marcus Bontempelli (opened $21, now $8) and Max Gawn (opened $13, now $9) each account for 10 per cent of the market with $6 favourite Petracca (opened $11) the next most popular at 9 per cent.
