NT film to begin shooting

- LEE ROBINSON

FILMING of the first-ever Territory feature film made 100 per cent locally will kick off this month in Alice Springs.

Under the Street Lights is a musical that tells the story of two young adults from very different backgrounds who are brought together by their common love of music and their common struggle with having an alcoholic parent.

More than 20 cast and crew members are involved in the project, which represents a huge opportunity for upskilling and career development for the local industry.

Film director and producer Danielle Loy said engaging local cast and crew – as opposed to flying them in from the eastern states – meant the story would be told authentically. “(Our crew) can tell the story in the best way because they know this world,” she said. “Anyone else who comes in and tries to tell our story – they just don’t really get it, and it often falls short of the mark.”
