Guy Sebastian

He was the original, and might still be the best. At the tender age of 22, Guy was the first contestant to take the Idol crown in 2003, and went on to a career that’s still going strong 15 years later. Yep, he’s had six number-one songs – including Battle Scars with Lupe Fiasco – and nine Top-10 albums. Plus, he’s moved to the other side of the music competition desk, serving as a judge on The X Factor for five seasons. His crowning glory was representing Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 – the first year we were asked to compete. (He came a very respectable fifth, FYI.)

Guy experienced the full-blast Idol experience in its massively popular debut. “It was such an amazing time in my life, and it all happened so fast,” he says. “I guess because it was the first one, people were really caught up in it. You just [went] from sort of normal life – nobody knowing your name and what you look like – to people making posters and holding your name up and camping outside your house. It was full-on, but I loved it.”
