Kiernan Shipka ( Mad Men) and Ross Lynch ( My Friend Dahmer) have cast quite a spell on viewers and critics in the first episode of the darker, funkier reboot of Sabrina The Teenage Witch. As lovebirds Sabrina and Harvey, they’ve brought fan-favourite characters roaring back to life...

Did you guys watch the TV show from the ʼ90s?

Kiernan: I knew the basics of the show, but I never watched it – I was scared it would mess me up!

Ross: It was before my time! But funnily enough, when I booked this show, my mum started watching [ Sabrina The Teenage Witch]. How is the series different from its predecessor? K: This Sabrina is really dark. As far as my character [is concerned], she’s super passionate about doing the right thing. She’s powerful, but hasn’t fully come into her powers yet. She’s still growing, still figuring it out.

R: People are expecting the sitcom version. I’m excited, more than anything, to shock them with the darkness of the show! Sabrina and Harvey are still the same loved-up teens though, right? K: Sabrina’s relationship with Harvey is so beautiful and pure. They really, really adore each other.

R: They’re still young, so that innocence of first loves is apparent. He knows she’s very special. Special like a witch? R: I don’t think Harvey would assume that she has powers or that she’s a literal witch!

K: The thing that kills Sabrina is that she is hiding part of herself from Harvey. Watching that unravel throughout the season is one of my favourite parts of the show.
