WILL LOVE ISLA AND CAST NONEBINARY & INTERSEX COUPLES?
It’s time to share the love! Or more accurately, share the Love Island, with non-binary and intersex couples getting a shot at the series this year!
Bosses on the UK version of the show are spreading the net wide in their application process, asking prospective contestants to nominate whether they identify as male, female, non-binary (i.e. not included in a strict male or female category) or intersex (born with both male and female characteristics).
And everyone is encouraged to apply – a marked change for a format that has previously faced criticism for its almost exclusive focus on heterosexual relationships (with the odd bisexual contestant thrown in).
Given that tens of thousands of people are expected to go for the coveted contestant positions, there’s scope for a wide range of applicants. So will the Aussie version follow suit? Come on people, it’s 2019 – get with the times!
