Shocking pink makes Miss Lolo founder Tamzyn Adding smile

-

Shocking pink is Tamzyn Adding’s favourite colour and it’s followed the founder and creative director of Miss Lolo through her life. Bright pink featured heavily in all the things she loved as a child and it stars in her home. “When you walk in you’re hit by this super-bright pink. You can’t help but smile and that’s why I’ve always used it,” Tamzyn says.

When Tamzyn branched into interior design, bright pink popped up in her homeware and logo and will be in her upcoming accent collection with Resene. “I’ve created a curated Miss Lolo colour range using Resene paints showing Kiwis how to use on-trend colours rather than going for the same neutrals,” says Tamzyn.

What should you think about when choosing colour? What you want to keep. People sometimes put in a feature wall, but they don’t take into account drapery, bedlinen or other things that are expensive to change if they don’t work with the new colour. Ask yourself, what is it in the room that is 100 per cent staying? Then work back from there. And be mindful of art. Paint a Resene testpot first to see that the feature wall and artwork don’t fight against each other. What if you’re not brave enough for a full-on bright wall? Experiment with paint techniques. An ombré wall created with paint can look amazing. Or add colour in small doses. Instead of a headboard, perhaps paint a circle behind the bed, using a feature colour.

How to make sure you choose the right shade? A testpot sample is going to look lighter than a whole room in that colour. Be aware of where the light falls. Paint all of the testpot onto a large piece of card and move it around from light to dark areas to see whether you’re going to like it.

It doesn’t bother me if nobody else likes it because I live here.” The living room features Resene ‘Blackbird’, Resene ‘Quarter Tea’ and soon to be released Resene ‘Pink Cadillac’ from the Miss Lolo colour range.
