NZ House & Garden

Behind the scenes

-

After eight years at NZ House & Garden Rosemary is headed for something new. I’ll miss: Our lovely team. This clever, hard-working bunch turn out a beautiful magazine month after month.

I’ve loved: Getting to know the gardeners. I’m not sure if gardening makes you a nice person, or nice people make amazing gardens, but there’s something about gardening that makes people special. I’ve met so many delightful gardeners from all over the country. Maybe gardening is the secret to having a happy life?

This year: I have a couple of projects on the boil, but first I will holiday at Matapouri in Northland with a pile of novels (Sally Rooney’s Normal People is top of the pile), write some garden stories, paint our front fence and, if I’m lucky, go on a walking holiday to Portugal in April. Joining the team at NZ House & Garden as the new associate editor, Sharon has worked in home-related publishing for many years, and shares an addiction to renovating houses with partner Ian.

The best thing about working for the magazine: Getting an early peek at the incredible and inspiring homes and gardens we feature, and helping craft such a quality publication.

My addiction to renovating: Is taking a break after we virtually rebuilt a house a couple of years ago. It was an exciting project and we now have a wonderful home for us and our two teenage sons.

Is it our forever home? Who can tell.

This year I’m planning: On continuing to work on the garden at home. It’s the part of the project that we’ve really enjoyed and has proven to be the most rewarding.
