My Space: MM Linen’s Kerry Jackson shares her special place.

Describe the space: “We chose the new Westfield mall in Newmarket for our flagship store as it has striking architecture and interiors and is truly a world-class shopping destination. To create a unique store that matched our signature style, I started the design process by trying to create what could look like a real home from the outside looking through into what could be the bedroom. When you enter there is a gorgeous abundance of floral fabric – in the bed linen, kitchen textiles and baby ranges – and wonderful Italian home scents wafting throughout. The dried floral chandelier in the centre is a real art piece and was created for the store. The outside frontage and back wall has a beautiful washed, aged concrete look reminiscent of old European villas. I love all the natural wood in the fixtures and floor and this is accented by a curved white tiled counter and entrance area. It’s a fusion of old and new, which is very much our brand.” What feelings does the space evoke? “It’s full of colour, botanicals and florals which make me feel uplifted. It’s open, not overcrowded with product so it evokes calm. I love the curved walls and large wooden picture windows that were created outside to give a softness, to make it homely and inviting. Every time I visit I feel so proud of the gorgeousness we’ve created. The space is very much me, from my favourite emerald green colour on the washed walls to the natural wood elements, which I love in my own home in Christchurch.” What is your role? “I am the founder of MM Linen and started the brand seven years ago. My main role is creative director, designing seasonal ranges twice a year and directing our local and international teams. We now sell into 100 or so retailers in New Zealand and more than 600 stores globally.”
