thundersto­rms and torrential rain the night before put off the faithful. Sure, the wind may have been roaring through the trees as it pushed the last of the rain away when the first of us arrived, but the day soon cleared, and, by 8am, the cars were pouring in. The Bay Rodders were among the first to arrive, quickly taking the prime lakefront spot and setting up gazebos and BBQs in readiness for a relaxing day. From there, the floodgates opened and, before long, the lower reserve was jam-packed with low-riders, hot rods, classics, muscle cars, and resto rods. While there were a few stunners down there, the hot rod built out of leftover Cadillac parts had to be seen to be believed! KEVIN SHAW / KYM WYLIE A big rig arrived with the temporary stage, and, by mid-morning, the tunes were belting out from a variety of performers — some good and some not so good, but they all helped set the great atmosphere for the day. With heaps of cars, food, drinks a plenty, and lots of entertainm­ent for the kids, it was shaping up to be a fabulous family day out. And, right on cue, the weather cleared up perfectly. Overlookin­g those below were the retro caravanner­s, set up in the campground on the upper reserve. These guys and gals were the real early birds, some having pulled in before the Bay Rodders guys and one couple having turned up days before.
