You’ve probably seen Jason Sellars’ stunning Falcon XY drag ute on these pages — the car was only recently completed, and IHRA tech inspected by Dave Moyle. After the ignition problems experienced by the vehicle on the dyno were rectified with an ICE ignition system, Dean and Warren at Landon Motorsport managed to squeeze out 1069kW (1430hp) at the rear wheels — very impressive for an engine retaining the Cleveland iron block and Cleveland cast-iron heads. Jason managed to sort everything out in time to have the ute at the recent Test and Tune and Auckland Harley Davidson Spring Nationals at Meremere Dragway over November 28–29, undergoing his licensing passes. “I was just doing start-offs, burnouts, that sort of stuff, for licensing; and it’s taking time to familiarize myself with the car,” he says — although that didn’t stop him from pulling some pretty impressive numbers. He adds, “When I did my first full-track pass, it was an 8.2 at 160mph, and I buttoned off at the end before pulling the chutes.” This was backed up by an impressive 8.6-second quarter mile, but at 165mph, with Jason explaining, “On my next pass, I backed off half track, as it moved round a bit, then got back on the gas, which is why the ETs and mph are a bit strange.” By the sound of it, Jason’s XY is capable of dipping into the sevens; we can’t wait to see the results as he gets more comfortable in it. Yes, we know what you’re wondering — we’ll have a full feature on this crazy machine in our next issue.
