JASON FELL — 1969 CHEV CAMARO
When Jason Fell’s ‘69AR’ Camaro made its debut 10 years ago, nobody had seen anything like it locally, because nothing quite like it existed here! An expert upholsterer though he may have been, the interior was just one of the many impressive aspects of the Camaro that stood head and shoulders above its contemporaries. The silky orange paint and stance on massive Intro billet rims was one thing, but the main attraction was, without a doubt, the Vortech-supercharged 496ci big block. Immaculately polished and detailed to the point of resembling some alien weapon, Jason eventually felt the need for a little more … cue a twin-turbo 540ci big block, just as impressively presented and even more visually imposing — good for around 1300hp. Oh, and good for a second cover feature, as seen on NZV8 Issue No. 127 — it’s the only car to have been featured on the cover twice. Since then, it’s changed yet again, the turbo 540 being replaced with a monster naturally aspirated 602ci big block built by Steve Schmidt Racing Engines. While overall power is down, the 815hp at the treads it makes is nothing to be sneezed at, and Jason loves the instant power delivery all the way up to 7000rpm. It’s nothing but brute-force cubic displacement, although we can’t help but wonder how long it takes before the man decides that he wants something else, and what he could possibly replace this aspirated monster with.
