Our news section included a mention that Air New Zealand was to commence flying into Masterton airport, which would spell the end of drag racing on the runway. We were hopeful that a solution would be found. Turns out that one was, the result being Masterton Motorplex. Tony Johnson’s column was all about Scott Dixon, a driver he described at the time as being the greatest motorsport talent New Zealand has ever produced — correct again.

Our coverage of the Father’s Day Drags had a lot of familiar faces in it, with the quickest of the bunch running low 10-second quarters — a far cry from their performances today.
