SCOTTY MAC EDITION
On the back of his third Supercars Championship, Scotty Mac has released his very own signature Mustang, teaming up with Herrod Performance in Australia, which build special editions for Ford Australia, and it looks as if it was actually his dad who in a very Kiwi/Aussie way got the whole deal off the ground with Herrod while they were ‘hanging out’ at the race track. The SM17 special edition is more than just a Mustang GT with some fancy decals and black wheels — it’s track-tuned, having completed hundreds of laps in testing, and features adjustable sway bars and reconfigured coilovers as well as Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres in 275/35 and 305/30, sitting on 20x9.5s and 20x11s.
The thing makes bonkers power too, with 775hp and 598lb·ft on tap thanks to the addition of a large three-litre (183ci) Whipple supercharger on top of the Coyote, which was developed between Whipple and Herrod. It features a dualcore intercooler and 3x4 rotor combination for increased rpm and more progressive boost. Herrod has also tuned the 10-speed automatic, but a sixspeed stick shift is also available.
Although other colours are available, the bold red with black details was Scott’s preference, so you’d be silly to opt for anything different. As you’d expect, production numbers are extremely limited, and it’s said only 30 will ship across the ditch to us — so if you’re a number 17 supporter, your Christmas wish list just got a whole lot bigger! Pricing in New Zealand is yet to be determined.
